State of Texas LPC- Associate Process
Texas State Requirements
Masters Degree or PhD in Counseling or Psychology from an accredited university and completion of all classes and practicum as required by the LPC Board. For more detailed information go to the LPC Board website
Successful completion of the National Counselor Exam (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor (NCMHC) Exam
Application for LPC Licensure, Practicum Documentation, and Supervisory Agreement Form sent to the Texas State Board of Examiners in Austin, TX.
LPC- Associate Supervision Requirements
The supervised experience must include at least 1,500 clock-hours of direct client counseling contact. Only actual time spent counseling may be counted. An LPC Associate may not complete the required 3,000 clock-hours of supervised experience in less than 18 months.
Maintain accurate records of logged hours, supervised hours, and supervision weekly documentation.

Copy of Transcript
Copy of NCE Score and Jurisprudence exam
Complete a supervision contract form which both parties must sign.
Apply for LPC Licensure. All LPC Associate documents are to be sent to the Texas State Board of Examiners. Your application process may take up to six weeks to be processed.
Copy of Liability Insurance. There are several options available such as CPH, HPSO, American Professional Agency, and Hiscox.
What’s Included in Supervision
Telehealth Supervision
Individual (1:1) or triadic (2:1) and quarterly group supervision
Weekly sessions will be scheduled in advanced and will be planned accordingly. Minimum of 4 hours a month.
Consultation In Between Supervision
15 minute phone recaps between supervision sessions, as needed.
Assessments, Interventions, & Ethics
Besides reviewing clinical cases, I also cover a wide variety of topics in supervision including, confidentiality, best practices, treatment planning, diagnosing, termination, practice development, and ethical boundaries.
Networking & Resources
There are several focused in-services offered including visiting experts in the field including Psychiatrists and Specialists and community mental health networking opportunities. Helping Associates gain evidence based strategies and resources to best support their client's needs is one of the most invaluable skills.

Adriana Velazquez Sanders, M.A., LPC-S #72540, has held full licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 2017 and obtained supervisor designation (LPC-S) on August 2022.

Individual Supervision- $80 per hour
Triadic Supervision (2:1)- $65 per Associate per hour
Group Supervision- $65 per Associate per hour (minimum 3 individuals)
The LPC Associate must receive direct supervision consisting of a minimum of four (4) hours per month of supervision in individual (up to two Associates) or group (three or more) settings while the Associate is engaged in counseling. No more than 50% of the total hours of supervision may be received in group supervision (3 or more associates.
